Netanyahu To Address Congress
Reuters reports: "Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he would set forth his view of a future Middle East peace in an address to Congress on Tuesday and reaffirmed Israel would never return to its old, narrow borders. 'I will outline a vision for a secure Israeli-Palestinian peace,' the right-wing Israeli leader said on Monday about his planned address to a joint meeting of Congress. 'I intend to speak the unvarnished truth. Now more than ever what we need is clarity.'"

Obama In Ireland To Hold Talks On Trade
Reuters reports: "President Barack Obama, starting a four-nation tour of Europe in Ireland on Monday, said he wanted to encourage bilateral trade and would do all he could to help the country's economic recovery. Obama will also explore his Irish roots, making a brief visit to a village that was home to his great-great-great grandfather."

Mitchell: 'The President Didn't Say That Israel Has To Go Back To The '67 Lines'
Appearing on This Week, former Middle East envoy George Mitchell said that President Obama's proposals for the Israel-Palestine conflict did not entail a major shift in U.S. policy. "The president didn't say that Israel has to go back to the '67 lines. He said with agreed swaps," said Mitchell. "Swaps means an exchange of land intended to accommodate major Israeli population centers to be incorporated into Israel and Israel's security needs. Agreed means through negotiations. Both parties must agree."
Jordanian King: 'My Instincts Tell Me Not To Expect Much'

Obama Calls For Reform Of No Child Left Behind
In this weekend's YouTube address, President Obama called upon Congress to replace the No Child Left Behind Act, with states being given flexibility for education reform as has been done with his administration's "Race to the Top" grants.
"Our challenge now is to allow all fifty states to benefit from the success of Race to the Top," said Obama. "We need to promote reform that gets results while encouraging communities to figure out what's best for their kids. That why it's so important that Congress replace No Child Left Behind this year - so schools have that flexibility. Reform just can't wait."

The New York Times reports: "As Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel heads to the White House on Friday for the seventh meeting since President Obama took office, the two men are facing a turning point in a relationship that has never been warm. Kerry: Pakistan Boosting Cooperation With U.S.
AFP reports: "Pakistan, under renewed US pressure since the death of Osama bin Laden, is stepping up its efforts to battle extremists and help stabilize Afghanistan, senior US Senator John Kerry said Tuesday. 'Some of them are important things that are very important to us strategically, but they are not appropriate to discuss publicly,' said the Democratic lawmaker, who chairs the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. GOP's Big Medicare Gamble
The Hill reports: "Republicans on Capitol Hill may be in the process of learning a hard lesson: Meddling with Medicare, whatever the nation's fiscal circumstances, just isn't popular. They are feeling the heat now because of House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan's (R-Wis.) controversial plan to turn Medicare into a type of voucher system. Presented as a serious attempt to fix the program's projected shortfalls, the proposal instead appears to have turned the political tide back toward the congressional Democrats, who were on the ropes after last November's midterms."

Nikki Haley: 'We Do Not Want A Massachusetts Health Care Plan In South Carolina'
Appearing on This Week, Gov. Nikki Haley (R-SC) said that Mitt Romney would continue to have to deal with the issue of health care reform. "I will tell you we do not want a Massachusetts health care plan in South Carolina. I think that he will have to continue to deal with that issue. I think he's going to have to talk about how that was not good for the country. That wouldn't be a good thing that we'd want to mandate on all of our states. And I think he'll have to respond to what his thought process was. But I think that we are looking for a leader that's willing to, one, make courageous stands, take strong policy decisions, but two, also admit when a mistake was made."
Boehner: 'Medicare, Medicaid - Everything Should Be On The Table, Except Raising Taxes'
Appearing on Face The Nation, Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) reiterated his objection to any tax increases in order to deal with the deficit, which President Obama has said would have to be part of a solution. "The people he's talking about taxing are the very people that we expect to reinvest in our economy and to create jobs," said Boehner. He also added: "Medicare, Medicaid - everything should be on the table, except raising taxes."

Obama Announces Plans For Increased Oil Production
In this weekend's Presidential YouTube address, President Obama announced that his administration was opening up increased oil drilling, as part of an effort to deal with high gas prices.
"Last year, America's oil production reached its highest level since 2003. But I believe that we should expand oil production in America - even as we increase safety and environmental standards," said Obama.
"To do this, I am directing the Department of Interior to conduct annual lease sales in Alaska's National Petroleum Reserve, while respecting sensitive areas, and to speed up the evaluation of oil and gas resources in the mid and south Atlantic. We plan to lease new areas in the Gulf of Mexico as well, and work to create new incentives for industry to develop their unused leases both on and offshore."

CIA Not Bringing Photos Of Bin Laden's Body Onto Capitol Hill
The Hill reports: "Lawmakers on key committees can view the photos of Osama bin Laden's body, but only if they travel to CIA headquarters in Langley, Va. The Obama administration has cleared legislators on the House and Senate Intelligence and Armed Services committees to view the photographs of the deceased terrorist. According to one lawmaker who made the trek, bin Laden looked like he was 'hit by a truck.' However, it was clear that the person in the photo is bin Laden, according to the member, who requested anonymity."

Politico reports: "At the University of Michigan's Cardiovascular Center Romney will address the issue that haunts his candidacy: The health care bill he signed into law as governor of Massachusetts, legislation that President Obama's advisers say inspired ObamaCare. For Romney, there's no getting around it. The perceived similarities between the two measures are a deal-breaker for the Republican base, which loathes the president's plan. Obama Administration Fights To Save Healthcare Law
Reuters reports: "Lawyers for President Barack Obama go to court on Tuesday to try to save the cornerstone of his healthcare overhaul, arguing that the requirement for Americans to buy insurance is constitutional. A three-judge panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit will consider whether a lower court was correct in striking down the requirement. But they will not be the final arbiter in a fight that is expected to reach the Supreme Court. Legal scholars see the case as pivotal because it is the first to have oral arguments before an appeals courts. That means its ruling could affect other courts and become the first challenge to the law to reach the high court."

Obama Presses Pakistan On Bin Laden
AFP reports: "US President Barack Obama has pressed Pakistan to probe how Osama bin Laden managed to live for years under the nose of its military, saying he must have been supported by locals. Obama stopped short of saying the Pakistani government was involved, but the White House called on Islamabad to help counter growing mistrust by granting US investigators access to three of bin Laden's widows who are in Pakistani custody and could have vital information on Al-Qaeda."

Donilon: Obama Ordered Bin Laden Raid Based On '50-50 Chance'
Appearing on State of the Union, National Security Adviser Tom Donilon said that President Obama ordered the raid on Osama bin Laden's compound based on "what was probably a 50-50 chance that Osama bin Laden was there." Donilon also added: "It was a circumstantial case ... But what he had 100 percent confidence in was the ability of our special forces to execute the mission."

Appearing on Face The Nation, Sen. John Kerry (D-MA) rebutted those who might question the decision of the Navy Seals to shoot an unarmed Osama bin Laden, rather then capture him. "They had no idea whether Osama bin Laden was lunging for a button that would blow up the entire building. There were weapons in the room. He was reaching for them. What we do know is he was not surrendering. It was the dead of night," said Kerry. He also added: "We need to shut up and move on about, you know, the realities of what happened in that building."

Obama: 'Not A Day That Goes By That I'm Not Focused On Your Jobs'
In this weekend's YouTube address, President Obama spoke from the Allison Transmissions plant in Indianapolis, Indiana, a clean ' company, to stress that he is still focusing on the economy in addition to the big news from the past week about the killing of Osama bin Laden.
"A lot of folks are still looking for work. And many folks who do have jobs are finding that their paychecks aren't keeping up with the rising costs for everything from tuition to groceries to gas. In fact, in a lot of places across the country, like Indiana, gas is reaching all-time high," said Obama.
"So although our economy hasn't been the focus of the news this week, not a day that goes by that I'm not focused on your jobs, your hopes and your dreams. And that's why I came here to Allison Transmissions. The clean ' jobs at this plant are the jobs of the future - jobs that pay well right here in America. And in the years ahead, it's clean ' companies like this one that will keep our economy growing, create new jobs, and make sure America remains the most prosperous nation in the world."

Hillary Clinton Says The U.S. Will Stand By Pakistan
Reuters reports: "The United States said on Thursday it would stand by its ally Pakistan despite the strains in the relationship exposed by the discovery and killing of Osama bin Laden by U.S. troops close to the Pakistani capital. 'It is not always an easy relationship, you know that,' Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said on a visit to Rome. Conrad: 'Work Both Sides Of The Equation' On Taxes And Spending, Without Raising Rates
Appearing on Meet The Press, Sen. Kent Conrad (D-ND) called for an increase in tax revenue, without raising marginal rates, by closing tax loopholes. " You know, let me just say this, revenue has to be part of this because revenue as a share of our national income is the lowest it has been in 60 years. Spending as a share of our national income is the highest it has been in 60 years. So you got to work both sides of the equation," said Conrad, who served on President Obama's debt commission. "But we did not raise tax rates, as this proposal, what we did was have tax reform. Let me just give you an example. In the Cayman Islands there is a little building, five-story building, called Ugland House, it claims to be the home of 18,000 companies. They all say they're doing business in that little building, the only business they're doing is monkey business. They're avoiding paying the taxes that they owe. If you reform the tax code and collect that money, I don't consider that a tax increase."
Coburn: Increase Revenue By 'Taking Away Tax Credits, Lowering The Tax Rate'
Appearing on Meet The Press, Sen. Tom Coburn (R-OK) voiced his support for tax reforms that would increase overall revenue by closing loopholes and tax credits, without raising tax rates: "Well, we're not talking about it [raising rates]. I think if you go back and look at the commission's report, what we were talking about is getting significant dynamic effects by taking away tax credits, lowering the tax rate and having an economic increase that will actually increase the revenues to the federal government."

Obama: 'No Silver Bullet' For Gas Prices, 'But There Are A Few Things We Can Do'
In this weekend's YouTube address, President Obama discussed his administration's response to high gasoline prices.
"Now, whenever gas prices shoot up, like clockwork, you see politicians racing to the cameras, waving three-point plans for two dollar gas," said Obama. "You see people trying to grab headlines or score a few points. The truth is, there's no silver bullet that can bring down gas prices right away.
"But there are a few things we can do. This includes safe and responsible production of oil at home, which we are pursuing. In fact, last year, American oil production reached its highest level since 2003. On Thursday, my Attorney General also launched a task force with just one job: rooting out cases of fraud or manipulation in the oil markets that might affect gas prices, including any illegal activity by traders and speculators. We're going to make sure that no one is taking advantage of the American people for their own short-term gain. And another step we need to take is to finally end the $4 billion in taxpayer subsidies we give to the oil and gas companies each year. That's $4 billion of your money going to these companies when they're making record profits and you're paying near record prices at the pump. It has to stop."

Geithner: Congress Will Raise Debt Ceiling -- And Leaders Told That To Obama And Me
Appearing on This Week, Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner said: "Well, I want to make it perfectly clear that Congress will raise the debt ceiling." When asked by Christiane Amanpour whether he was sure about that, Geithner responded: "Absolutely. And they recognize it, and they told the president that on Wednesday in the White House. And I sat there with them, and they said, we recognize we have to do this. And we're not going to play around with it. Because we know -- we know that the risk would be catastrophic."

Also during his appearance on This Week, Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner warned of what would happen if the debt ceiling were not raised. "What will happen is that we'd have to stop making payments to our seniors -- Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security. We'd have to stop paying veterans' benefits," said Geithner. "We'd have to stop paying all the other payments on all the other things the government does. And then we would risk default on our interest payments. If we did that, we'd tip the U.S. economy and the world economy back into recession, depression."
