Republican Candidate Threatens To Sue Democrats Over Charges Of Sexual Harassment

OH-13 House candidate Tom Ganley (R)

Republican congressional candidate Tom Ganley is obliquely threatening to sue his opponent -- Rep. Betty Sutton of Ohio's 13th district -- and the rest of the Democratic Party after multiple women came forward to accuse him of sexual harassment.

I have reason to believe the vile lies against me have been carefully orchestrated by Betty Sutton, the Ohio Democratic Party, and the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. I will be meeting with my attorneys this weekend to see if legal action can be filed for the Democrats' efforts to derail my campaign and ruin my reputation.

Before Ganley concocted that explanation for the rash of sex crimes he's been accused of, House Minority John Boehner put Ganley on the list of candidates he'd be campaigning with this weekend.

Meet The GOP's Young Bums: TPM Rounds Up The GOP's Worst Next Big Stars

Clockwise from top left: Blake Farenthold, Rich Iott, David Harmer, Allen West

Republicans promote their "Young Guns" Congressional candidates as "the best opportunity to move our country in the right direction." Founded in 2007 by Reps. Eric Cantor, Kevin McCarthy and Paul Ryan, the "Young Guns" program aims to recruit and promote "a new generation of conservative leaders." But before even getting to Congress, a number of this year's "Young Guns" and "Contenders" have found themselves fending off scandals, struggling to explain past actions and in one particular case, being outed as a ducky pajama enthusiast.

Let's review some of the most embattled "Young Guns."

Tea Party

Short Fuse: Which Tea Partier Will Be First To Cross The Line And Knock Someone Out?

So: which tea party candidate is going to lose it and actually knock someone out before Election Day? With so many potentially dangerous hotheads (or at least candidates who appear to be interested in coming off that way) running for office on the conservative side of the Republican ballot line, this is a very important question for campaign volunteers, political opponents and anyone else who may find themselves in close proximity to some of these folks.

From New York to Alabama, this year has produced some of the gun-totin'est, threat-makingest, just-plain-wired-to-blowingest crop of potential members of Congress and governors in a long time. And most if not all of the of the ticking time bombs come from the tea party crop. So strap on your black belt, grab your pepper spray, dial 9-1 (be prepared to press the final "1" when necessary) and let's meet the Most Dangerous Men In Tea Partydom.

GOPer Ganley: Obama Says He's Christian, 'No Reason To Believe Otherwise'

OH-13 House candidate Tom Ganley (R)

Tom Ganley, the Republican nominee for Congress in the OH-13 race against incumbent Democrat Betty Sutton, clarified his earlier comments that he did not have a position on whether President Obama is a Muslim -- now saying that he has no reason not to believe the White House's statements that Obama is a Christian. Furthermore, he also said that the question was "irrelevant" to his campaign.

Ganley told Roll Call yesterday:"I don't have a position on whether he's a Muslim." This line of questioning came in the wake of a Pew national poll showing that 18% of Americans think that Obama is a Muslim -- nearly twice the number from last year.

Later in the day, Ganley sent Roll Call a statement. "During an interview earlier today, I was asked a question about President Obama's religion that I felt irrelevant to the story being written about my campaign for Congress," he said. "I do not believe President Obama's religion has any impact on the need for jobs in Ohio's 13th district. According to the White House, our President is a Christian and I have no reason to believe otherwise."

GOP House Candidate Ganley: 'I Don't Have A Position' On Whether Obama Is Muslim

OH-13 House candidate Tom Ganley (R)

A Republican nominee for a big House race in Ohio is now declining to say whether he thinks President Obama is a Muslim.

"I don't have a position on whether he's a Muslim," said Tom Ganley, an auto dealer and self-funding GOP nominee for Congress in Ohio's 13th District, in an interview with Roll Call. This interview came in the wake of a Pew national poll showing that 18% of Americans think that Obama is a Muslim -- nearly twice the number from last year.

Ganley is running against second-term Democratic Rep. Betty Sutton, in a district that voted 57%-42% for Obama in 2008. He had initially been running for Senate, challenging Rob Portman for the GOP nomination, but was recruited by the party back in February to switch races and go for the House. He has already put $6.5 million of his own money into the race.

Report: Ohio Tea Partier Switching From Senate To House Race

OH-SEN candidates Tom Ganley (R) and Rob Portman (R)

Tom Ganley, an auto dealer who had been seeking the Republican Senate nomination in Ohio, is expected to switch races and instead run for a House seat, against incumbent Democratic Rep. Betty Sutton. This is a big gain for former Rep. Rob Portman, the frontrunner for the Republican nomination, who now has a clear path through the primary.

Ganley had been attempting to mount an anti-establishment, Tea Party-linked campaign against Portman, but polls had consistently shown him failing to catch on. Reports indicate that a Ganley internal poll had shown him running well against Sutton. On paper, though, Sutton's district could be a tough climb for Ganley. It voted 57%-42% for Barack Obama in 2008, and before that it voted 56%-44% for John Kerry in 2004.

However, as CQ points out, Ganley will be able to transfer his $1.3 million cash on hand from the Senate race (much of it self-financed) over to the House race. By comparison, Sutton had only $210,000 cash on hand as of December 31.

Ohio Senate Candidate Ganley Goes On The Air In GOP Primary

The Republican primary for Senate in Ohio could be starting to heat up, with anti-establishment candidate Tom Ganley, an auto dealer, launching his new statewide ad buy to introduce himself to the voters.

The ad does not directly attack former Rep. Rob Portman, the frontrunner for the GOP nomination, but simply denounces "the Washington politicians." The ad focuses on Ganley's own background in business, his call for lower spending and his opposition to bailouts, and his role in an FBI investigation against organized crime in Ohio.

A Quinnipiac poll from September gave Portman a lead over Ganley -- but it was only a 27%-9% leads, with very high undecideds and both candidates largely unknown with the voters.
