Steve King Accuses Colbert Of Staging Farm Work: 'I Saw No Sweat' (VIDEO)

Rep. Steve King (R-IA) and Fox News host Megyn Kelly were pretty steamed earlier about Stephen Colbert's testimony earlier today on behalf of the United Farm Workers Union. "I think it's an insult to the time, an insult to the intelligence of the American people," King said.

Kelly agreed: "Many people perceive that as a huge waste of your time and our taxpayer dollars."

But King also suspected there was something more nefarious afoot in Colbert's testimony. After watching video of Colbert's day working as a migrant farm worker, King concluded: "The video looks to me like it was staged." He added: "He didn't do real work. They said it was hot, it was hard. I saw no sweat."

There was a lot of hand-wringing over Stephen Colbert's testimony before Congress today, and now that it's over, can we safely say the Republic is not coming to an end? Colbert himself also had high hopes for another outcome: "I trust that following my testimony both sides will work together on this issue in the best interest of the American people. As you always do."

Stephen Colbert's Opening Statement At Congressional Hearing (VIDEO)

Stephen Colbert testified before Congress today on behalf of the United Farm Workers Union, about his "vast experience spending one day as a migrant farm worker."

Before the House Judiciary Subcommittee on Immigration, Citizenship, Refugees, Border Security, and International law, Colbert said: "This is America. I don't want a tomato picked by a Mexican. I want it picked by an American. Then sliced by a Guatemalan, and served by a Venezuelan in a spa where a Chilean gives me a Brazilian."

Stephen Colbert is scheduled to testify Friday morning at a House Judiciary Committee hearing titled "Protecting America's Harvest."

A press release from the United Farm Workers describes how Colbert will appear before the Subcommittee on Immigration, Citizenship, Refugees, Border Security, and International law to testify on the group's "Take Our Jobs" campaign, which encourages "U.S. citizens and legal residents to replace hundreds of thousands of immigrant field laborers, most of whom are undocumented."
